Hollis-Jefferson, van Grinsven, Baron named Big 5 players of the week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson of Temple was named the Big 5 Men's Player of the Week while Chatilla van Grinsven of Saint Joseph's and Alyssa Baron of Penn shared Big 5 Women's Player of the Week honors.
Hollis-Jefferson set new career-highs in points (23) and rebounds (18) in helping the Owls to an 82-74 win over La Salle and a share of the Big 5 Championship. He made 9-of-14 shots from the floor and also dished out a game-high five assists versus the Explorers. In a victory over Charlotte, he notched eight points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Averaging 21 points and 14 rebounds in a pair of games, van Grinsven posted 16 points and 15 boards in a Big 5 victory over La Salle. In an overtime setback to Fordham later in the week, van Grinsven notched her 1,000th career point and finished the contest with 26 points and 13 rebounds. She made 53.1% of her shots (17-of-32) and also averaged 2.5 assists for the week.
Baron averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Quakers. Against Cornell, she netted 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. She nearly recorded a triple-double against Columbia, scoring 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, grabbing nine boards, and handing out seven assists. She also swiped four steals.
Men’s Honor Roll
- Tony Hicks (Fr. G) of Penn had the best scoring performance by a freshman Quaker in over 20 years by netting 29 points in a victory over Cornell. He netted 15 of the squad’s first 17 points and scored nine straight in a key second-half run.
- Langston Galloway (Jr. G) of Saint Joseph’s scored a season-high 26 points and tied his career-high with six 3-pointers in a win over George Washington. He made 10-of-17 field goals on the game.
- Tyreek Duren (Sr. G) of La Salle averaged 18.5 points per game in a 1-1 week. He netted 21 points to lead the Explorers to a win over Rhode Island. In a Big 5 game against Temple, he scored 16 points to go along with three assists.
