Bell, kanacevic, stipanovich named big 5 players of the week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A pair of seniors, James Bell of Villanova and Halil Kanacevic of Saint Joseph's, were named the Big 5 Men's Co-Players of the Week while Penn freshman Sydney Stipanovich collected Big 5 Women's Player of the Week accolades.

Bell led the Wildcats to the outright Big 5 championship by scoring 19 points and grabbing four rebounds in a road win at Temple.  Earlier in the week, he notched 16 points and four boards in a Big East road win at Georgetown.  Villanova finished a perfect 4-0 in Big 5 play.

Kanacevic averaged 13 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4 assists in a 2-0 week for the Hawks.  He netted a team-best 18 points in an upset of #21 UMass while also contributing six rebounds and dishing out five assists.  He eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau in a road win at Dayton after scoring eight points and also grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.  He played all 40 minutes in both contests.

Stipanovich had her second consecutive outstanding week, averaging 13 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks in a pair of big Ivy League wins.  She notched 12 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Dartmouth before helping the Quakers crush first-place Harvard by netting 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and nine blocked shots.

 

Men’s Honor Roll

  • Tyreek Duren (Sr. G) of La Salle averaged 17.5 points and 1.5 assists per game in a
    1-1 week for the Explorers.

 

Women’s Honor Roll

  • Caroline Coyer (So. G) of Villanova averaged 14.5 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week.  She scored 10 points against Georgetown before netting a game-high 19 points to go along with six assists versus Creighton.
  • Erin Shields (Sr. G) of Saint Joseph’s netted a season-high 27 points in a victory over VCU.  In that game, she made 9-of-18 field goals and drained five 3-pointers.  Earlier in the week, she scored 15 points in a setback versus Saint Louis.
