PENA AND WALLACE EARN BIG 5 AWARDS
Men’s Player of the Week
The Philadelphia Big 5 honored Antonio Pena (Jr., F) of Villanova with the Big 5 Men’s Player of the
Week award. Pena racked up 17 points and 16 rebounds in last night’s Championship game of the 2009
O’Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off, of which he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding
Player. Against Big 5 opponent Penn on Monday night, he addedd 12 points and 10 rebounds en route to
a Villanova victory. Pena averaged 13 points and 11.25 rebounds per game, helping the Wildcats to a 4-
0 record on the week.
Honor Roll
• Rodney Green (Sr., G) of La Salle averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds per game as the Explorers
went 2-1 on the week. He achieve his first career double-double vs. Davidson with 21 points
and a career high 10 rebounds and was named to the All-Charleston Classic Team. He has
now climbed into 20th place on La Salle’s all-time scoring list with 1,440 points.
• Darren Smith (Sr., G) of Penn had a game-high 21 points in the Quakers 103-65 loss to Villanova
on Monday and 17 points in Saturday’s 97-94 double-overtime loss to Delaware.
Women’s Player of the Week
Women’s Player of the Week
Temple’s Shaqwedia Wallace (Jr., G) was awarded Player of the Week on the women’s side. Wallace
helped lead Temple to a 3-0 week and kept them undefeated so far this season with an average 15 points
per game. She scored a game-high 19 points on Tuesday as the Owls defeated 2009 SEC champ
Auburn, while also leading all players with four steals and racking up three assists. In Saturday’s 65-55
win over Buffalo, she scored 4-of-4 from behind the arc in a span of five minutes to set the Owls up for a
big second half. She totaled a game-high 22 points, including 8-of-9 from the free throw line and 6-of-6 in
the final minute to secure the victory. Wallace also shot 37.5 percent from three-point range for the week.

• Ashley Logue (Sr., F/C) of Saint Joseph’s helped the Hawks achieve their first win of the season
over UMBC with 15 points and 16 rebounds, her first double-double this season.
• Kristen McCarthy (So., F) helped Temple remain undefeated at 4-0 so far this season with her
first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Buffalo.
• Sarah Bucar (Sr., G) of Penn led the Quakers in scoring this week with two double digit
performances. She totaled five steals and 11 rebounds, as well as securing at least two assist
per game while shooting 5-of-15 from three-point range.
